Summary:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing and entering journal entries, assist with sales and use tax filing and personal property tax filing, balance sheet reconciliations, assist in the preparation of financial statements, and ensure data accuracy of the financial operations of the business. This position will report to the Assistant Controller. This position will support two organizations comprising SES-GS and its long-term objectives. The Staff Accountant provides technical expertise and support to the Accounting team in the areas of financial accounting, cost accounting, GAAP, FAR and CAS. This is a hand-on position. Must be willing to roll-up their sleeves and work issues side-by-side with the Accounting Team. Must be willing to work extended hours to meet internal and Corporate deadlines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Assist with Monthly Sales & Use Tax Filings
  • Asist with Annual Personal Property Tax Filings
  • Assist with FASB 842 Lease Accounting Calculation and Entries
  • Prepare and process adjusting journal entries
  • Support internal and external annual financial audits
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting package
  • Assist with the Annual BPOL Tax filings
  • Provide data requested by tax department in support of federal and state tax returns
  • Must have strong, current, hands-on knowledge of Costpoint
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with and consistent application of all relevant accounting and regulatory rules, regulations and Company policies
  • Must have experience and proven success in process streamlining to gain efficiencies within the area of responsibility.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive work experience to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial, and accounting practices and procedures.
  • Minimum of 1 years of recent and relevant U.S. Government contracting industry experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year current/recent hands-on Costpoint experience.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards.
  • Demonstrates full understanding of all month-end processes and calculation files and underlying accounting concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of General Ledger & reconciling GL to sub-ledgers
  • Understand and record journal entries for cost accruals, prepayments, and salaries.
  • Strong work ethic - must be able to prioritize and manage multiple, critical projects simultaneously; must be able to work extended hours to meet monthly internal and Corporate deadlines.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; must be able to quickly manipulate large amounts of data
  • Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Business Intelligence/Cognos working knowledge
  • SAP knowledge
