Staff Accountant

Job description

Perform daily and month-end accounting duties, including recording journal entries and preparing account reconciliations and analyses, and maintaining subledgers.

  • Compile and analyze data to prepare journal entries for various accounts and transactions.
  • Maintain and reconcile various subledgers.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including independently identifying and resolving reconciling items in support of ending account balances.
  • Prepare various month-end schedules and variance analyses.
  • Apply the financial policies and procedures of the company and communicate to management any inconsistencies or issues identified during the daily or month-end close processes.
  • Independently communicate with other company personnel and contacts outside of the company to gather needed information and/or resolve issues.
  • Generate and send daily reports to various departments as needed.
  • Work on various SOX tasks and projects.
  • Assists with requests related to internal and external audits and work with auditors to resolve audit questions.
  • Reviews existing processes, identifies opportunities for improvement and helps to implement approved changes.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
Education:
  • From an regionally accredited institution; Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
Work Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in corporate accounting environment or 2+ years of public accounting experience
  • Experience with a publicly traded company preferred
Job Skills:
  • Intermediate knowledge of US GAAP
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a commonly used ERP/General Ledger system (Oracle/PeopleSoft financials is a plus)
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manipulate financial data and present results in useful format
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivots, vlookups, nested formulas, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work extra hours during month-end/quarter-end close cycle.
Certifications:
  • CPA Candidate preferred not required
